I’m a singer, songwriter, producer and now after reading this I’d finally call myself a mix engineer as well.Before reading this I felt like I had a pretty ok understanding of mixing and just needed to fill in the gaps, but after reading this I realized that I didn’t know much at all.
I got so much out of this. This is truly a fantastic book for any new, aspiring or even seasoned mix engineers. I’ve always wanted to just sit next to some pro MEs to see how they did it and I finally feel like I had that chance.
My friend said it best when he said that every page is filled with great info and at no point did he ever feel like Björgvin was trying to fill pages. Literally every page and word was extremely helpful.
So now I need to stop reading and taking notes obsessively and get to mixing.

This book is a quick and simple read with lots of effective advice if you’re trying to figure out how to mix on your own. Just learning how to EQ better is worth the read, but once you add in the other things like compression and reverb in a strategic manner you’ll hear improvements right away.
The realm of audio is a deep and wide pool of knowledge to both absorb and apply. What Bjorgvin brings to the table is the ability to organize the information contained within that pool into a series of actionable steps and procedures to obtain results as your needs require. If you have the time and inclination you can dive deeper into any of the topics he covers in the book but trust me, it's a bottomless pit. If you want good results to gain experience and build confidence you can't go wrong with his instruction. I would also recommend his website, other courses, and signing up for his nearly daily e-mails that cover many of the topics in the book in both more detail and different applications.
As someone newly involved in music, I try to learn as much as I can to make decent sounding music. I just started making music five months ago but I'm about to make my work public through my friend's music label. This book has been really helpful for me, I can't thank the author enough. The name of the label is LSR (Lew Sound Records) if you wanna check us out. We're just starting off and make a variety of music (mainly variations of hip hop, pop and rock) and I hope this book helps us bring a little joy to the world through decent sounding music.
This is a really concise and well written overview of the mix process. It’s not simplistic as there are lots of different books and videos which go way more in depth, but it sticks to the principle that 20% of the work in a mix will deliver 80% of the results.
This short book only tries to deal with the first 20% and doesn’t promise to do more than that - which means it’s perfect for educators and young mixers getting started with mixing.
I will be recommending this to all the young mixing engineers I work with and teachers that I associate with.
I just finished recording and mixing my first song. I'm a total newb, both to my DAW and recording, so my learning curve has been quite steep. This book helped me narrow my focus and complete a mix that actually sounds OK! I'm a perfectionist type, so wouldn't expect my first try to be pro-quality, but this book helped me get it to the point where I'm not embarrassed to share it. That's saying a lot!

This book is an absolute MUST READ. Stop guessing, or struggling with trial and error methods. Clear concise, step by step, solid advice from a Professional whom is willing to share with you, his talents and experience.
You will find yourself reading this book more than once as it also becomes a quick reference for each of the topics and techniques that are covered.

I think this is an overall great book with many good points and handy little tricks. It is very simple and Björgvin describes things in an understandable way. I think, though, that he doesn't cover all parts of mixing as in-depth as you would need for giving the full picture. For example, he didn't mention how to think when panning. But the book explains in a great way the most important aspects of mixing, and provides plenty of great advice. As a complementary book to other, more detailed books it is great, by helping you to focus on the right things and giving you a roadmad to follow while mixing.
